Random Personal Picture Finder

If you have a digital camera, this will probably sound familiar. Usually, when you take a bunch of pictures, and then pull them off the camera onto your computer, you wind up with a bunch of files named things like “IMI1010005.jpg” or “DSM1003MVC.jpg” etc.

Each camera has its own internal default naming format. Many include the model of the camera in the name, or some kind of date information, or something. Anyway, someone put together a small database of these naming formats, and a program that will generate valid filenames for each format.

The cool part was creating a web program that will feed these randomly-generated filenames into the Google image search. Voila! It finds dozens of personal snapshots from god-knows-where all over the web. It’s like taking a random slice of other people’s photo albums, or peeking into the envelopes at the photo-lab.

Enjoy! [via MeFi]
