National Novel Writing Month
That’s right. Now you can watch me write a novel. Only 818 words today, but I made them worth it. The site calls for just generating material, no matter how bad it is. In fact, in the interest of making it easier and less threatening for people to get started, it practically begs you to write bad shit. I dunno how I feel about that. It’s likely a good idea because people really do feel threatened and often can’t bring themselves to start. But still. Maybe that’s as it should be. Most people can’t write and shouldn’t. Still, though it may be a bit of a support group for miserable losers, I’m throwing my hat into the ring because I’m something of a miserable loser myself. I hope I get something more out of the experience than support and validation of myself as a miserable loser!
The site has about the most annoying name ever, but it’s a cool idea. 30 days. 50 thousand words. No cheating!
I’m taking the opportunity to motivate myself to dust off an old idea and bang it out. It should be an easy one as they go.

Hear, hear! I’ve decided to give it a shot, too.
Also, I’m pretty firmly in favor of the whole affair (though I agree that the nickname is a little unseemly). In general, I’m in favor of making things even when the results are predictably imperfect, or even terrible. The maker might learn something, and no one (except unwitting volunteer readers, I guess) gets hurt.
